Qualifications and Training

  • (NVQ3/NNEB minimum: as long as candidate is in process of studying for EY degree/EYP)

Experience

  • 2 years post-qualifying experience in a day care setting

Purpose

  • To ensure the highest standards of physical, emotional, social and intellectual education and care for children placed at Red Balloon.

  • To supervise and support the staff team within Red Balloon therefore implementing the highest standards of quality practice.

  • To maintain excellent relationships with parents / carers of children placed in the care of Red Balloon.

  • To foster an ethos of continuous improvement thus ensuring the best outcomes for children, staff and parents are met cross setting.

  • To monitor processes and implement evaluation tools within the settings. 

  • To act as an Ambassador for Red Balloon and to ensure that the vision, philosophy and objectives behind Red Balloon are fulfilled.

Reports To

  • The Group Manager and Owners.

 

Main Duties

 

Outstanding Care

  • To foster an ethos of continuous improvement thus ensuring the best outcomes for children, staff and parents are met.

  • To ensure the most effective implementation of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

  • To work in a ‘hands-on’ capacity in the nursery rooms in order to monitor provision and deliver improvement

  • To be aware of and act in accordance with current legislation, policy and procedures.

  • Implements and reviews policies and procedures

 

Partnership With Parents

  • To work in close partnership with parents / carers and other family members and to seek constantly to exceed their expectations.

  • To manage day-to-day communication and to keep parents informed

  • To handle criticism and complaints

 

Health and Safety

  • To ensure that safety and security measures are constantly maintained.

  • To conduct and review effective risk assessment.

  • To oversee the efficient upkeep of the building and maintenance/stock of equipment, furnishings and fittings.

  • To ensure good standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times

  • To be responsible for the health and safety standards appropriate for the needs of young children.

  • To take responsibility in the event of a medical emergency

Team Management

  • To be responsible for all nursery staff, cook, cleaners, students and voluntary workers.  Responsibilities include
    - supervising and supporting all staff within the nursery in their day to day duties
    - recruitment and induction of new staff starters
    - team building
    - performance appraisal, training and development
    - implementation of disciplinary procedures
    - ensuring that the staff team are consistently working to their full potential.

  • To co-ordinate staff meetings as appropriate including agendas and minutes.

  • To work in a ‘hands-on’ capacity in the nursery rooms in order to:
    - role model best practice for the staff team
    - coach and develop the staff team through delivering praise and recognition and offering constructive feedback

Planning & Organisation

  • To manage monthly budgets

  • To plan for nursery events

  • To work with the owners regarding short, medium and long-term strategic planning

  • To maximise usage of any grants and funding available to nurseries

  • To manage and deliver improvement projects and awards

  • To complete day-to-day administrative tasks in order to ensure smooth and efficient operation

 

Leadership

  • To lead the nursery to achieve an outstanding Ofsted rating

  • To establish and maintain effective communications links with the Local Authority and other professional bodies and agencies associated with Red Balloon.

  • To maintain a good level of involvement in the local community.

  • To act as an Ambassador for Red Balloon and to ensure that the vision, philosophy and objectives behind Red Balloon are fulfilled.
